Rowe exits early at Gatweay
danny-roweMADISON, Ill. (4-4-2009) - Get Screened America Pro Mod Challenge championship contender Danny Rowe came to Gateway International Raceway just across the Mississippi River from downtown St. Louis anticipating a repeat of his dominating performance in Houston just a few weeks earlier. Apparently, though, back-to-back wins simply weren't meant to be as Rowe bowed out in the first round of eliminations.

Rowe, driving the Sterling Bridge '67 Chevy Camaro Pro Mod, qualified 9th for Sunday's festivities with a 6.022-second, 240.55mph pass and was paired up with Burton Auxier for the opening round.

A classic blower versus nitrous battle, Rowe and Auxier were the first pair of cars to roll under the tower at GIR and take to the track. Fresh off a holeshot victory in Houston over Rick Stivers, Danny Rowe has been on his game when it comes to the starting line in 2009, but found himself on the wrong end of a holeshot against his fellow veteran driver.

With a five-hundredths of a second disadvantage on the starting line, Rowe's hard-charging 6.012/240.85mph lap wasn't enough to make up lost ground, allowing Auxier to squeak out the win with a 6.051 at 234.78mph.

"You live by the sword, you die by the sword," said a content Danny Rowe, checking in via cell phone from his home in Laguna Hills, California. "That's all there is to it. We had a good car this weekend, we just got bit up there and that's all there is to it. Burton [Auxier] did a great job.

"You just look forward to the next race, that's all you can do, and look to improve your performance every time you hit the track. And that's exactly what we're going to do. We'll take this one the chin, stay focused and continue to work towards a Get Screened America NHRA Pro Mod Challenge championship.

"The points chase is getting tighter," said Rowe, who is sixth in the point standings, 57 points out of first place. "We've got to stick to our game plan, qualify well and consistently go rounds at each race. Bristol is one of the greatest facilities we race at; we're looking forward to getting out there at the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals and picking up where we left off in Houston."
