Rowe In The Midst Of Tight Points Battle Going Into Latter Half Of Season
rowe (6-1-2009) TOPEKA, Kansas – Many a season has been decided by the efforts of a team, player, or in this case, driver, going into the latter portion of the year. Danny Rowe and his veteran race team are no strangers to high-pressure situations, and unfortunately for the competition, tend to perform at their absolute best when they know they have to.

Despite the summer heat, Danny Rowe posted a strong 6.046-second, 238.68mph past to grab the No. 4 starting position for the first round of eliminations on Saturday afternoon which setup a battle between 1st generation F-bodies in the opening on-track encounter between Rowe and Oklahoma’s Kirk Wilmes.

The two cars left almost simultaneously, but even Wilme’s best run of the weekend wasn’t enough to hang with the Sterling Bridge ’67 Camaro as it barreled to a 6.100 at 238.72mph.

“Running the first round of eliminations on Saturday afternoon gives us just one more goal each weekend,” said Rowe. “When we get to the track it’s all about qualifying in the top half of the field, once that is accomplished our focus changes to making sure that we make it till Sunday. Once we got past Wilmes in the first round, I was confident that we had a shot at going the distance, but as I’ve said a number of times, you cannot count any one of these guys out.”

Sunday morning, though, wasn’t as good to Rowe and company as the two days prior. The second to last pair of cars to run, Rowe would meet Tim Tindle in the quarterfinals for another interesting matchup between Ford’s classic pony Car and one of Chevrolet’s flagship hot rods. Tindle snagged a slight starting line advantage and was able to edge out Rowe with a 6.10/233mph combo, besting Rowe’s early shut-off 6.317/198.76.

“With four races left, this Get Screened America NHRA Pro Mod Challenge is still up for grabs,” said Rowe, boarding the plane back to California following the event. “We’ve definitely got a little bit of ground that we need to make up, and fast, but I’ve seen what this team can do when our backs are up against the wall. We’re looking forward to Englishtown here in a few weeks, we’re confident and we’re ready to shake things up.”

Danny Rowe and the Sterling Bridge Pro Modified ’67 Camaro will be back in action at the United Association NHRA SuperNationals on June 11th through 14th at Englishtown, New Jersey’s Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.
