| Burgess leads R2B2 Racing in day one at Charlotte |
CONCORD, N.C. (September 18, 2009) - Roger Burgess' 5.959-second pass at 241.89 mph led the R2B2 Racing team in day one action in the Get Screened America Pro Mod Challenge presented by ProCare Rx at the NHRA Carolinas Nationals. Melanie Troxel is in the provisional seventh place wile Raymond Commisso struggled with car issues and landed 18th."The track is outstanding," Burgess said. "It will hold all the power we've got, and actually, we probably left quite a bit in the tank. It was more important though, that we get good solid runs in and then build on them. We'll come out tomorrow and try to improve on our '95 and then work our way through eliminations. "We've got our jobs cut out for us. We're driving against the best racers in the world. We've had a great turnout for the series again this weekend, and I really am having a lot of fun. We're down to the last three races, and we're at the point there are is a lot of competition for points and the Matco Tools Clash, but at the end of the day, these guys are all great competitors," he said. Melanie Troxel's best for the day came in the second round when she ran a 6.006 at 239.19 mph to take the provisional No. 7 spot. Troxel said, "On one hand, we're really happy we were really happy to come out and put down a decent number in the first pass and them improve on the second pass, but at the same time, there's something not right with the car. Something in the engine that's keeping it from making the horsepower and mile per hour on the top end. It's making decent numbers, but Al (Billes, crew chief) and the guys expect more out of it. "We're making some changes tonight to see if we can track down what's causing the problems and see if we can't step it up tomorrow." Like Burgess, Troxel was also positive about racing at the zMAX Dragway. She said, "This is the kind of track you look forward to coming to regardless of the class you're driving. It's a beautiful facility and you don't have to worry about any issues with the track like bumps or things like that, especially when you have the possibility of losing a round to the weather. It's just a great place to race," she said. Commisso struggled in both rounds to get down the track and ended up outside the field in the No. 18 spot with only one qualifying round remaining. He explained, "We had ignition problems in Indy, and we didn't realize until it was too late, but we changed everything since then. "Today is the first time we've had a chance to run the car because we didn't get to do any testing. The first run this morning we had the wrong gear ratio in it, so we fixed that, and then we were a little off on the clutch tonight, but I think we'll be just fine tomorrow. "We're going to go out there, make a good, clean run and get the car qualified. That's the plan," Commisso said. The final round of qualifying is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, with the first round of eliminations scheduled later in the afternoon at 4:30 p.m., with the balance of eliminations to be run on Sunday. ### |
