Incredible season opener for Castellana and Al-Anabi |
(03-16-09) GAINESVILLE, FL – Teamwork was the name of the game for the Pro Modified powerhouse Al Anabi Racing this weekend in Gainesville during the season-opening Get Screened America NHRA Pro Mod Challenge. The lone nitrous cars in a vast field comprised of a majority of supercharged hot rods, and even a turbocharged entry; Mike Castellana, Rickie Smith and Burton Auxier knew it would be an uphill battle going in, but found success in a combined group effort from the entire team. While still a relatively new concept in the Pro Modified ranks, the multi-car Al Anabi Racing program was able to prove that the age-old adage “two heads are better than oneâ€, and three race cars for that matter, still holds true.

(03-16-09) - For Tony Pontieri and crew sitting at home in the snow waiting for the new car to arrive is sheer torture. “We are all extremely excited to get the new car and get out there racing.†Said Pontieri, adding that we are couple months away from being able to return to competition, and we have not finalized the decision of where we will run.†“The guys and I want to get the car, drop the engine in test and decide where we can be the most competitive.â€said Pontieri “Rob Sporring, Paolo Dalimante, Frank Fierro, and I are just so excited to get back to the track. Despite early exit, rowe and company remain positive |
(03-16-09) GAINESVILLE, FL - A far cry from the team’s intentions for a big season-opening act in Gainesville, Danny Rowe was defeated in the first round of eliminations on Saturday at the ACDelco NHRA Nationals at Gainesville Raceway. The Hottinger Group/Sterling Bridge ’67 Camaro Pro Mod had demonstrated to be one of the most consistent and potent hot rods on the property for the Get Screened America NHRA Pro Mod Challenge, but it uncharacteristically smoked the tires right off the starting line in Rd. 1 bringing a seemingly promising weekend to an early end.

Commisso outside the field at Gatornationals |
(03-15-09) GAINESVILLE, FL - R2B2 Racing Pro Mod driver Raymond Commisso had his hopes dashed of starting the Get Screened America Pro Mod Challenge season with a win when an extensive track cleanup forced the cancellation of the final round of qualifying Saturday, leaving the Toronto restaurant owner on the outside of the field when the final ladder was set. Both of Commisso's runs on Friday ended with aborted efforts: the first round due to tire smoke, the second when his ProCare Rx/R2B2 Motors '68 Camaro ran too close to the centerline and the veteran lifted, landing on the No. 16 bump spot heading into the final round of qualifying Saturday morning.

Burgess earns first round win of the season at Gatornationals |
(03-15-09) GAINESVILLE, FL - Roger Burgess drove his ProCare Rx/R2B2 Motors '67 Camaro Pro Mod to his first number one qualifying effort and recorded a personal best ET in the Get Screened America Pro Mod Challenge presented by ProCare Rx and then defeated Taylor Lastor to grab his first round-win of the season. In the second round of eliminations, Burgess’ Camaro struggled while leaving the starting line, opening the door for eventual event winner Mike Castellana. At the stripe, it seemed close by the numbers - Burgess' 6.050/240.94 to Castellana's 6.013/236.55 - but the lag in reaction times -- .211 to .052 - was the key.
