Baker qualifies No. 3 and wins first round in Houston
DSB_5373(03-28-09) BAYTOWN, TX - Matco Tools/Lend America Pro Mod racer Joe Baker qualified No. 3 Saturday in the Get Screened America Pro Mod Challenge at Houston Raceway Park and advanced to the second round of eliminations.

Baker, the defending event champion, piloted his Mike Ashley Racing '68 Camaro to a 6.031/242.10 in the lone qualifying session to grab the No 3 spot, and faced off against nitrous powerhouse Burton Auxier in the first round of eliminations Saturday evening.

Auxier took a slight starting-line advantage from Baker, but the Chuck Ford-tuned Chevy blasted to the win with a 5.973/242.10 to 6.054/235.51.

"We knew we had a great car this weekend, especially since the weather conditions were so amazing. Chuck had this Matco Tools Camaro just dialed in, and we were able to really take advantage of the track to win against Burton in that first round," Baker said.

"It was difficult because there was only one qualifying session and we didn't have a great handle on exactly what the track would hold, but Chuck did his magic, and now we're getting ready for round two.

"There's nothing I'd like more than to repeat here this weekend, and I'm sure we can do it, especially if the weather tomorrow is the same as today," he said.

Baker will have lane choice against Gainesville winner Mike Castellana Sunday afternoon when eliminations continue.
