| Danny rowe takes matters into his own hands |
(03-30-09) BAYTOWN, TX – At a time when Danny Rowe felt all he needed to seal the deal on a win in the ultra competitive Get Screened America NHRA Pro mod Challenge was a little bit of luck, he decided to take matters into his own hands, or feet for that matter, and strap a .015 light on Rick Stivers in the final round of eliminations at Dallas to take home the win. In what many consider the most exciting final round in recent history of Pro Modified drag racing, Danny Rowe used a massive advantage on the starting line to best Rick Stivers’ 5.96/243.66mph pass with his own 6.01 at 244.43mph blast. “This has been a long time coming,†said an ecstatic Rowe, checking in by phone from Houston Raceway Park. “We’ve all worked hard for this win and the fact that it’s been a struggle only makes it that much sweeter. Not to mention the fact that we’re truly competing against the best of the best here in the NHRA, making a win here as meaningful as can be.†Rowe, who earned his first win since 2004 in Houston, has always vocalized the relentless effort put forth by his team and didn’t hesitate to give them credit in the winner’s circle this weekend. “Jimmy [Rector, crew chief] and the entire team earned this honor this weekend. It was 2004 the last time we won a final here, and it’s about time. Hopefully the next one won’t take nearly as long.†While the final round may have been the most climactic of the weekend, the excitement started early for Danny Rowe who qualified 4th amongst a field laden with heavy-hitters by way of a 6.04-second pass at a whopping 245.94mph in the sole qualifying round after the Friday’s two qualifying sessions were rained out. Rowe then worked through the field with a string of incredible passes including a 5.952/244.07mph in the first round over Brad Personett and a 5.97 at nearly 245mph in Rd. 2 before taking out Taylor Laster in the semi-finals with another five-second blast –setting up the aforementioned final between Rowe and Rick Stivers. Rowe and crew will be looking to duplicate their stunning performance in Houston at the O’Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals at Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Illinois on May 1-3, 2009.
