Eliminations bring blistering times in Houston
mainBAYTOWN, Texas (March 28, 2009) – Clear skies and cool temperatures greeted fans and racers Saturday morning at the Get Screened America Pro Mod Challenge presented by ProCare Rx at the O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals in Baytown, Texas, and all were treated to an earth-shattering day of thrilling Pro Mod action deep in the heart of the Lone Star state. Qualifying was polarized by an all-or-nothing result: drivers either rocketed to the stripe or struggled to get down the quarter-mile, and eliminations were highlighted by blistering times and side-by-side action.

Raymond Commisso took best advantage of the near-perfect weather and delivered the quickest ET ever in a legal-trim Pro Modified car during qualifying. A blast of 5.884/246.57 in his '68 Camaro Z/28 earned the Toronto-racer top qualifying honors, just ahead of his R2B2 Racing teammate Roger Burgess, the only other racer to qualify in the five-second-zone at 5.900/246.44. Neither, however, was able to back up their runs and snatch the official record of 5.905 from Tony Pontieri, as both exited during the first round of eliminations.

Weather delays force cancellation of Pro Mod qualifying on Day One
DSA_7593BAYTOWN, Texas (March 27) - After a long day of weather-related delays, the first two rounds of qualifying were cancelled in the Get Screened America Pro Mod Challenge presented by ProCare Rx at the O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals in Baytown, Texas.

The last downpour ended around 5:30 p.m. and track drying commenced, but the shut-down area was too saturated for a complete drying, and NHRA Officials erred on the side of safety as the dew point continued to increase as the track temperature decreased, eventually cancelling all remaining qualifying around 8:15 p.m.

Stivers rides his Trane into Houston looking for a win
DSA_4556HOUSTON (March 25) – After his last Pro Mod event in Gainesville, Fla., Lexington, Ky-HVAC entrepreneur Rick Stivers proved he's got the quickest Pro Mod this season, and it's one train he's hoping to ride into the winner's circle this weekend in Houston as the Get Screened America Pro Mod Challenge presented by ProCare Rx contests it's second event at the O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park.

Stivers is piloting the Trane, Inc.-backed '06 Stratus racing out of the Brad Anderson stable, and said his car is one "bad hotrod."

Danny Rowe eyes Houston pro mod challenge
rowe(3-25-2009) BAYTOWN, Texas – Veteran Pro Modified driver Danny Rowe entered into the 2009 season with “All Business” being the mantra of his Laguna Hills, California based Pro Modified program, and despite qualifying No. 2 in a stacked field of supercharged, turbocharged and nitrous-assisted hot rods, fought traction issues in the opening round of eliminations. This weekend in Houston, though, it’s time for a rebound for Danny Rowe; time to get back to business as usual.

Driving the Hottinger Group/Sterling Bridge ’67 Chevy Camaro Pro Mod, Rowe will look to improve upon his current 9th place position in the Get Screened America NHRA Pro Mod Challenge point standings, and knows a win in Houston will move him toward the top of the standings quicker than anything.

langHOUSTON (March 24) – Pro Mod driver and reigning IHRA champion Kenny Lang is on top of his game and ready to take on the best of the best this weekend in the Get Screened America Pro Mod Challenge at the O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park. Lang, backed by series presenting sponsor ProCare Rx, made a solid showing in the first event of the season at Gainesville, Fla., driving his '53 Corvette to the No. 9 qualifying position and a first-round finish, but the Canadian said he is far from satisfied.

"We didn't get a chance to do much testing over the off-season, so our last two events were more like testing for us," Lang said.
